Maxwell Leadership Center on Friday, May 4. The 70,000 square-foot facility will serve as the Sugarloaf campus of 12Stone Church while also functioning as the headquarter location for John C. Maxwell’s training organization EQUIP®.

With more than a decade of personal mentoring by Maxwell, 12Stone’s Pastor Kevin Myers experienced the impact of Maxwell’s leadership expertise firsthand. “We approached John to enter this partnership with us to honor his contribution to the international leadership landscape and the value of his legacy,” said 12Stone Pastor Kevin Myers. “As for location, Gwinnett County has been our home for almost 25 years. We are honored to expand here knowing the high value Gwinnett places on leadership.”

Located at 2050 Sugarloaf Circle, Duluth, Georgia 30097, the soon-to-be-built facility will offer much needed space for 12Stone Church to develop the next generation of ministry leaders while enabling the aggressively growing organization to train future and present pastors and ministry leaders through partnerships with Wesley Seminary and Indiana Wesleyan University. It will also provide a location for John C. Maxwell to produce his digital leadership library for businesses and ministries. Currently, EQUIP® and The John Maxwell Company have trained more than five million leaders worldwide.

Presently ranking among the 30 largest churches in the United States, 12Stone Church was the fastest-growing church in Georgia in 2011.

(Gwinnett/Metro Atlanta News) April 27, 2012: Partnership Gwinnett and Gwinnett Chamber Economic Development, in partnership with the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), and Intelligent Systems announced today the finalists and winner of the second annual small business plan contest – The Amazing Entrepreneur. The competition, designed to foster innovation and small business growth in Gwinnett and metro Atlanta, named human resource management software provider, CubeVibe, as the 2012 Amazing Entrepreneur.

“We are humbled and very excited to have been selected as the winner of the 2012 Amazing Entrepreneur Contest,” said Aaron Aycock, Owner of CubeVibe. “CubeVibe is very proud to be apart of a community that recognizes entrepreneurial efforts and building business.”

Other Contest Finalists included:

• Certification Consultants- a firm providing consultation to women and minority-owned businesses on certification for securing government contracts.

(Gwinnett/Metro Atlanta News) April 23, 2012- On the heels of Gwinnett’s Global Business Recruitment Mission to China – and the 10^th Annual Hi Tech Fair in Chongqing – mayoral representative from Chongqing, Deputy General Secretary Yan conducted a reciprocating mission to Gwinnett and metro Atlanta. Focused on identifying U.S. markets for foreign investment and trade, the Chinese delegation leveraged the strength of both Partnership Gwinnett and the U.S. China Cultural Exchange to communicate opportunities for foreign investment and trade with the rising economic hub in Western China.

“Our delegation was focused on developing relationships to facilitate international trade opportunities for Gwinnett, Georgia and the United States,” said Gwinnett County Chairman Charlotte Nash. “The reciprocation of the visit by Chongqing so soon after our delegation’s return adds to the foundation we built on our mission- and further supports the global business attraction efforts of Partnership Gwinnett.”

With a population of 32 million people and one of the largest cities in the world, Chongqing is China’s largest inland urban area. Chongqing was opened for direct foreign trade in 1979, and has since been identified by the Chinese government as the launchpad for inner-China’s industrial development.

“Chongqing had China’s highest GDP last year at 16.6 percent growth,” said Matt Biltz, Director at the U.S. China Cultural Exchange. “Gwinnett and metro Atlanta have much to offer in the way of opportunity for business development and international trade with China. Today, we’re working to bring foreign direct investment to Georgia.”

(Gwinnett/Metro Atlanta News) April 20, 2012- Okabashi Brands, Inc., the largest manufacturer of sandals and flip-flops in the United States, announced plans to expand its current Gwinnett-based operations by 150 new jobs. The 27-year-old company currently employs 200 in Buford, and plans to start producing private labels in addition to their existing Okabashi and OKA b. footwear. This announcement represents another successful existing industry expansion in Gwinnett.

“Our location in Gwinnett has given us access not only to great infrastructure, but also to an incredible labor pool in the community and metro Atlanta,” said Brad Laporte, Vice President of Manufacturing at Okabashi. “Those factors have contributed substantially to the growth and success of Okabashi  - further enabling us to produce and manufacture quality shoes right here in Buford, Georgia.”

(Gwinnett/Metro Atlanta News) April 18, 2012- Partnership Gwinnett, the metro Atlanta economic and community development initiative, announced today that the County’s jobs and wages are on the rise. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, wages in Gwinnett County rose by 8.0% year-over-year through September 2011, a percentage increase that ranks 24^th out of the nation’s 323 largest counties. In addition, the community experienced 2.4 percent job growth year-over-year, which led all large counties in the state of Georgia. Gwinnett continues to experience significant success in economic recovery as both the labor force and the number of residents employed each expands.

Monthly unemployment figures from the Georgia Department of Labor also revealed that Gwinnett has had the lowest unemployment rate among the 5 core metro Atlanta counties of Clayton, Cobb, Dekalb and Fulton for 35 consecutive months, from April 2009 through February 2012, according to preliminary numbers. Gwinnett’s unemployment rate dipped below 8 percent in November and December 2011. Prior to November 2011, Gwinnett had not had an unemployment rate lower than 8% since January 2009. Gwinnett’s preliminary unemployment rate for February 2012, the most recent month for which figures are available, is 8.0 percent.
