Italian Manufacturer accommodates growth with new 21,000 sq-ft facility

(GWINNETT- METRO ATLANTA) May 24, 2012—Partnership Gwinnett, the Gwinnett Chamber and local community and business leaders joined Cavanna Packaging USA, Inc. – a subsidiary of Cavanna Packaging Group, S.p.A. – to celebrate the grand opening of its North American headquarters operations in Gwinnett. The grand opening also highlighted Cavanna Packaging USA’s year-end employment projection totaling 12 initial jobs with that number expected to significantly grow as production increases. The opening of Cavanna Packaging USA, Inc. and its 21,000 square foot building – leased at 2150 Northmont Parkway, Suite A in Duluth – represents the company’s efforts to expand its customer base and market share in North America. It also represents Gwinnett’s growing reputation as a global business destination and a new, important addition to the County’s thriving packaging and material handling industry.

“As a company with a 52 year successful history of providing complete wrapping machines and systems, we are pleased to bring our services and products to North America,” said Riccardo Cavanna, CEO, Cavanna Packaging Group, S.p.A. “Upon recommendation from a fellow business owner to consider Duluth for Cavanna’s expansion, our own review has shown this insight to be correct. Gwinnett County has proven to be the perfect launching pad to grow and expand our customer base.”

Cavanna Packaging Group – with global headquarters in Prato Sesia, Italy – designs, produces and distributes automatic machines and turnkey systems for single pack and multipack wrapping of food, pharmaceutical, and non-food products. The family-owned business started in 1960 by Mario Cavanna made efforts to open a location in the U.S. in 2011 and ultimately chose Gwinnett because of its business-friendly environment, the proximity to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, and the area’s skilled workforce.

“After several months of evaluating many locations in other states, Duluth became the obvious choice for our company,” said Charles Haley, General Manager, Cavanna Packaging USA, Inc. “The close proximity of a major airport for both domestic and international flights – making for easy access for our customers and our parent company – along with a vast base for technical expertise for years to come are just a few of the reasons why Cavanna chose to locate its North American headquarters in Gwinnett. We couldn’t be more pleased with our decision to locate in Duluth and we look forward to working with our new partners in the community.”

Complementing Cavanna Packaging Group’s other facilities in Italy and Brazil, Cavanna Packaging USA provides manufacturing, engineering, sales and service support and parts inventory operations. The end result of their current operations at the Duluth facility leased by ProLogis is packaging systems and their ultimate goal of the U.S. operations is to support customers in all phases of the flow wrapping process in an effort to offer savings in time, space, engineering and energy.

“Cavanna is a unique company with a strong global connection; we are delighted to have this strategic industry expansion for Gwinnett,” said Gwinnett County Commission Chairman Charlotte Nash. “We look forward to watching them grow and flourish in our community.”

The opening of Cavanna Packaging USA and the manufacturing industry as a whole supports the ongoing economic development efforts of Partnership Gwinnett. Led by the Gwinnett Chamber and a host of public and private investors, this initiative targets the retention and expansion of existing Gwinnett businesses in addition to developing new business in key market segments. The ultimate goal of the initiative, now in its second five-year strategy implementation phase, is to promote jobs and wealth creation, support education and workforce excellence and improve the quality of life for the entire Gwinnett community.

“Prologis offered a quality option that was able to be easily customized to meet the specific needs of Cavanna’s operations,” said Jeff Lucas, Senior Leasing Manager, Prologis. “Our company is excited to be partnering with Gwinnett in recruiting jobs to the community and we look forward to seeing Cavanna grow and expand in one of Prologis’ facilities.”

“The decision by Cavanna Packaging Group to locate their North American headquarters in Gwinnett speaks volumes to our reputation as a global leader for company locations as well as Gwinnett’s attractiveness for advanced manufacturers and the success of Partnership Gwinnett,” said Troels Adrian, Advanced Manufacturing & Supply Chain Project Manager, Gwinnett Chamber Economic Development. “In addition, Cavanna’s custom-made packaging solutions will be a rich asset to the already strong packaging and material handling industry in Gwinnett.”
