Community Strengths

The young, highly educated workforce in Gwinnett County attracts industries as diverse as advanced manufacturing, bioscience, energy, financial services, and information technology. And business continues to flourish, given our favorable tax environment and affordable cost of living. Additionally, the comprehensive array of programs and initiatives that were launched through the first phase of the Partnership Gwinnett Plan had a halo effect on existing community strengths including:

  • A diverse economic base with significant growth potential;
  • Multiple existing industry expansions;
  • Pre-school to PhD, first class educational resources and enhanced business and education partnerships;
  • World class and continuously expanding healthcare facilities;
  • A k-12 education system with proven success closing the achievement gap creating an environment in which all students reach their highest potential.

Community Challenges

The vitality of the local, regional and national economy – and the significant changes due to the current economic downturn – the time was right to re-examine the initial PG Strategy that develops a new strategy for future growth and takes into consideration current community challenges including:

  • Working with the County’s growing multi-cultural population to make things happen by supporting leaders, organizations, and partnerships;
  • Mobility;
  • Tax structure sustainability;
  • Increase of low-income residents in the past decade.
