(GWINNETT- METRO ATLANTA) March 7, 2018 – Partnership Gwinnett, in collaboration with The University of Georgia Small Business Development Center (SBDC), launched its annual Amazing Entrepreneur Contest. The 2018 competition will award winners in the categories of Established Business and Pre-Venture and feature new high school and collegiate level competitions.
“The Amazing Entrepreneur Contest provides Gwinnett entrepreneurs the exposure needed to take their company or idea to the next level,” said Li Wong, Director of Entrepreneurship for Partnership Gwinnett. “This year’s competition will be no exception as the contest continues to foster growth in Gwinnett’s business community.”
The contest’s Established Business category is open to Gwinnett-based businesses, with an active business license that have been in operation for up to 36 months. The Pre-Venture category is open to Gwinnett residents who have a business idea, but are not yet in operation.
In addition to a $4,000 cash award, the Established Business Grand Prize winner will receive a scholarship to the Small Business Development Center GrowSMART program, a one-year Gwinnett Chamber membership ($500 minimum value), an invitation for two to the Partnership Gwinnett Summit, market research assistance from Partnership Gwinnett’s research department and numerous local and regional marketing opportunities.
The winner of the Pre-Venture category will receive a $1,000 cash award, an invitation for two to the Partnership Gwinnett Summit and multiple marketing and promotional opportunities.
“Gwinnett’s small business community has greatly benefited from the success of the Amazing Entrepreneur Contest,” stated Gwinnett County Commission Chair Charlotte Nash. “The contest is a great opportunity for community members seeking to grow a business in Gwinnett County.”
For the first time, both high school and college students will be eligible to participate in a student edition of the Amazing Entrepreneur Contest. This portion of the contest is open to student-owned and managed businesses only. High school students must be currently enrolled in a Gwinnett County Public School, Buford City School or private high school located in Gwinnett County. College students must be currently enrolled in Gwinnett Technical College, Georgia Gwinnett College, University of Georgia-Gwinnett Campus, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine- Gwinnett campus or any other private academic institution operating in the County.
“We’re thrilled to launch the first-ever student edition of the Amazing Entrepreneur Contest,” said Adam Forrand, Director of Education & Talent Development for Partnership Gwinnett. “Gwinnett is home to many successful student-run businesses and this contest is an opportunity for those students to promote their enterprises while seeking financial support to scale them into larger companies.”
The high school category will award a total of $1,000 in cash prizes- the first-place winner will receive $500, second place winner $300 and third place winner $200. The collegiate category will award a grand total of $2,000, with the first-place winner earning $1,000, second place $600 and third place $400.
The University of Georgia Small Business Development Center has partnered with Partnership Gwinnett to host the Amazing Entrepreneur contest since its inception in 2010.
“For nearly a decade, the Amazing Entrepreneur Contest has been an impactful program for developing Gwinnett’s small business community,” said Antonio Barrios, Area Director at The University of Georgia SBDC. “We are excited about the expansion and new additions to the program this year.”
Applications for the Amazing Entrepreneur Contest student edition must be submitted by March 30, 2018. Applications for the Established and Pre-Venture competitions must be submitted by June 8, 2018. Winners of the student edition will be announced on May 14, 2018 and winners in the Established and Pre-Venture categories will be announced at the inaugural Amazing Entrepreneur Demo Day on September 13, 2018.
